Father and son take bike ride of a lifetime to Statue of Liberty

Shepherd Colver, 9, pedaled his bike 3,300 miles over 18 weeks from Washington state to the Statue of Liberty, with his dad James riding every mile beside him. They'd tried the same trip in 2019 and had to quit when Shepherd's headaches turned out to be diabetes.
The parent pitched in
James didn't follow in a support van, he rode the whole route on two wheels next to his son, managing the diabetes on the road instead of using it as the reason to stay home the second time.
Why we picked this one
The headline is the Statue of Liberty, but the real detail is the quitting in 2019. Most trips end there. This one just got rescheduled.
Shepherd's dad picked one direction and stuck with it for 18 weeks. You've got an easier version: same bike, but pick a new direction every ride for a month and let your kid map where all of them actually lead.

Where it happened:
New York, NY
Somewhere in your garage is a bike that's only ever seen the block and a kid who thinks that's just how far bikes go. Nobody's asking for 3,300 miles, just a different direction next Saturday.
