Evie’s lemonade stand to benefit Martin House Children’s Advocacy Center

Evie White, 12, is back at her lemonade stand outside the Longview Walmart, same spot on Gilmer Road, fifth year running. A cup costs fifty cents but most people just hand over more, and in four years she's raised over $7,000 for charity, this year going to the Martin House Children's Advocacy Center.

When Evie asked who was going to donate to a shelter over the summer, her mom Stacie told her, well, I guess you are. Stacie filed the paperwork to make the stand an actual 501c3 nonprofit and left the rest, tent, cash box, colors, to Evie.
Why we picked this one
Her first-year goal was fifty dollars. She ended up with her mom sitting on a roll of cash and no real plan for what to do with it besides give it away. Four years later she still can't tell you if people are buying lemonade or just looking for an excuse to hand a kid money, and she's stopped trying to figure out which.
Pick the number before the first cup sells, even a small dumb one like fifty dollars, so there's something to blow past. Every cent of profit goes out, not just what's left after paying for lemons and cups. And when it's done, don't just report the total raised, say exactly what it bought, the way Evie can tell you it was $1,800 to Hiway 80, not just a big number.
