Biking Back to School

Reta Callihan, a first-grader in Goleta, California, pedals a one-mile ride to Ellwood Elementary every morning instead of riding in the car, and kept it up through her entire kindergarten year.
The parent pitched in
Her dad, Sean, rides alongside her each morning, saying it was simply a no-brainer since they live close and both like riding, rather than loading her into the car.
Why we picked this one
A six-year-old pedaling a mile to school sounds too small to count as anything, which is exactly why it counts. The whole move here is a dad who decided the car in the driveway wasn't the default, it was just one option, and rode the other one instead.
Reta pedaled a mile to Ellwood Elementary every single morning of kindergarten, rain or shine, no car. You don't need a school route: chalk a loop in the driveway, set up the lawn chairs and boards, and let your six-year-old ride it before breakfast, every morning this week, no exceptions.

The car is already running in the driveway tomorrow morning. What if the bikes came out instead.
