Adventures of the 'Fire Trail Warriors'

Eleven-year-old Quentin, known as Q, wanted a 6 a.m. hike near his home in Culdesac, Idaho during a break from summer camp. His mom pushed it to 8 a.m. on the Fire Trail in Lapwai instead, and Q opened the invite to any kid who wanted to come, so now a group everyone calls the 'Fire Trail Warriors' shows up on the trail most mornings.
Somebody said yes
Q's mom, Taushina, didn't say no to the hike, she just wasn't doing 6 a.m. and moved it to 8. After that she stayed out of it and let him invite the whole neighborhood.
Why we picked this one
Nobody organized a club here. A kid wanted to walk somewhere before it got hot, and his mom talked him out of dawn and into a time she could live with, then got out of the way while he texted his friends. The whole thing runs on a trailhead, some rabbits and deer, and zero screens.
Q turned an 8 a.m. compromise into a standing invite that fills up a trail every morning. You don't need a following, just one trail that ends somewhere worth seeing and a text to the neighbor kid asking if he's in.

Where it happened:
Lapwai, Idaho
Your kid asks for a 6 a.m. hike tomorrow. You don't have to say yes to 6, you just have to not say no.
