Braxton, 12, feeds and waters his family's chickens before school, then sorts and stocks the eggs at a stand outside their Cheyenne house. It runs on the honor system, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and so far he's sold to two customers.
The parent signed off
Valerie had been thinking about selling eggs and mentioned it to her son. Her only condition: if you want the money, you do the feeding, the collecting, and the sorting yourself, every day, not just the days you feel like it.
Why we picked this one
Nobody taught Braxton to check the stand first thing every morning. He just does, because it's his and the eggs are real and somebody might actually show up.
Most kids have never held an egg still warm from the hen. Find a coop, even a neighbor's, collect one yourself, and cook it up before the day starts.
